Javanese Studies CenterJogja Palace
The main objective of this institution is to promote the Javanese culture to the American audience. This is a culture with rich forms ranging from musical instruments, performing arts, languages, culinary, clothing, traditional ceremonies, stories, and philosophy.
The Javanese culture is rooted generally from the central and eastern Java in Indonesia. The cultures that we introduce in this center mainly are rooted from Yogyakarta (also known as Jogjakarta or Jogja or Jokja) and Surakarta (also known as Solo). Four palaces exist in these cities with living kings, queens, princes/princesses and other royal families who have preserved many Javanese traditions and cultures for many generations. The royal community and the citizens of the cities have been the primary guard of this old culture. Please proceed to the main Javanese Studies page. |
